The Rafael Hernández Dual Language K-8 School

Welcome to the website for the Rafael Hernández Dual Language School!

The Rafael Hernández is committed to working with parents and the community within a diverse, nurturing environment in which students use Spanish and English as constructive tools for learning.

We believe students, teachers, and parents should work cooperatively to set and achieve goals that maximize each student’s potential, and that develop courageous learners, effective communicators, and responsible citizens.

What you need to know about COMMUNICATION for the 2023-24 year:

The Rafael Hernández School uses Class Dojo for schoolwide communication. Teachers post pictures, videos, important information, and family resources. A weekly school newsletter is also sent via Class Dojo. Contact your student’s teacher to get your invitation to Class Dojo.

All important information from the district will be sent via School Messenger on email. They provide information in both Spanish and English for our community. It is critical that your email address be accurate and checked regularly. To update or add your email, please reach out to any of the Key Contacts below.

Hernández School Handbook 2023-24 in English and in Spanish

Updated Uniform Policy (link): Due to families requests, we are strengthening our uniform policy for the 2023-2024 school year. See below for the guidelines, uniforms from previous years can still be used. Uniforms will be available for sale at school, with details sent via school messenger in August. You can also buy from Metro School Uniforms. Students that do not have the school uniform will have to borrow a uniform and return at the end of the school day. We will have periodic spirit weeks or “freestyle” days when students do not need to be in uniform based on class goals. Notification will be sent home for these activities.
